Trees connect earth to heaven, and ground to air; they are a symbol of growth, change, and mortality.  In this series, the forest stands in for humankind; each individual making up the whole, all of us growing in our own time.  Each image allows the viewer to draw their own parallels, both universal and personal.  Yggdrasil is the tree of life in Norse Mythology - it connects the nine realms, from sky to root.  For me, this is a tangible expression of nakazora - a Buddhist term for the space between the sky and earth, or a state of floating where feet do not touch the ground.  The images are photographed with a half frame toy camera, which has an imperfect lens and very limited control.  The camera’s imperfections mirror our own life experience; working with our inherent flaws to achieve our goals.
